REFOCUS is an application that uses effective cognitive training strategies and accurate gaze tracking mechanisms to help diagnose and improve the cognitive health of people affected by neurodegenerative disorders.
These are conditions, such as Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s, that are proven to deteriorate the cognitive function of affected patients.
The application uses eye movement data from both affected and non-affected users to create an effective and tested correlation between pupil movement and the onset of NDs. Thus, it is powered by handcrafted and powerful machine learning framework.
The gaze tracking software is analyzed in real-time to aggregate metrics such as spontaneous blink rate, fixational saccade stability, and pupil dilation
Spontaneous blink rate is measured to recognize decreased dopamine levels, which are directly correlated with the presence of NDs. In regards to fixational saccade stability, the eyes are directed to a particular target with attentional gaze. Gaze differentiation can be related to an impairment in working memory, which is a deficiency caused by cognitive diseases. Pupil dilation is measured to determine the focused gaze of a user, which detects increased effort applied for visual cognition.
The metrics determine the cognitive ability of the user, in order to provide personalized training. These routines include randomized computation exercises, logical puzzles, and memory tests that are determined through accredited experimental research.
